1987 CBS. "Pilot." A sitcom set in a movie theater in Kansas City. Raye Birk plays the manager. Bruce Norris, Penelope Ann Miller, Jeffrey Joseph. Faith Ford, from Pineville, Louisiana, where my grandmother lived, as the ditzy cheerleader. John Christopher Jones is the weird projector guy.
Created by Barry Kemp, from Coach and Newhart, the Majestic Theatre, once one of the grand old movie theaters, is going to be chopped up into a multiplex. Scott (Bruce Norris), the Popcorn Kid, goes to bat for the theater with the owners in a bid to keep it open in its original form. Only six episodes of this were made. I watched them all on Youtube a few years ago. Only the pilot is available now uncut. All of the other episodes are there in parts. Ed Asner appears as himself in one episode, doing publicity for the theater.
I liked this show. This was one of the first short-lived sitcoms that I found on Youtube where I got to watch the whole run. The movie theater setting and Raye Birk and the cast make it fun.
I will be running this series twice a week, Wednesday and Friday, and occasionally maybe three times a week, in order to get more titles under my belt quickly. The schedule isn't too strenuous and it doesn't take long to watch one sitcom on Youtube.
