My Blue Heaven (1990)

Directed by Herbert Ross. Rick Moranis. Steve Martin. Joan Cusack. William Hickey. Bill Irwin. Written by Nora Ephron. When I was a kid my grandmother would cut the entire stack of pancakes into little squares and then I would eat the little square stacks from the outside in in a circle. That was my system for eating pancakes.

You don't tip FBI men. Sure you do.

My Blue Heaven (1990)—“Will Stubbs”

DS: I thought I was cut out of that movie.

AVC: No, you’re definitely in it long enough for Rick Moranis to kick your ass.

DS: [Laughs.] I honestly had no idea if that made it in. I enjoyed working with Rick and Joan Cusack, but I couldn’t have told you what I did until you mentioned it. For whatever reason, I’d gotten the feeling that I’d been cut out of it. I never saw it. Either way, it apparently wasn’t a memorable part for me. But the people were nice. Steve Martin was certainly a nice guy.

Suicide Kings (1998)

Directed by Peter O' Fallon. This came up in conversation earlier today when I mentioned I saw Christopher Walken in King of New York on Kanopy streaming. I somehow was able to recall the title after we were saying it's the Christopher Walken tied up movie. Bunch of dudes tie up Christopher Walken. Bad idea.

Can O' History - Codex Gigas - The Devil's Bible

A giant illuminated manuscript. Czech. Thought to be the work of Herman the Recluse. Header image of the devil has been color enhanced and the footer is a facsimile copy. My family is also Czech and one of the public domain image uploaders on Wiki has a very similar name. I chuckled when I saw it. Another one of those shrimp/plate of shrimp moments I am so fond of.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Gigas

The codex's bookbinding is wooden boards covered in leather, with ornate metal guards and fittings. At 92 cm (36 in) long, 50 cm (20 in) wide and 22 cm (8.7 in) thick, it is the largest known medieval manuscript. Weighing 74.8 kg (165 lb), Codex Gigas is composed of 310 leaves of vellum claimed to be made from the skins of 160 donkeys, or perhaps calfskin, covering 142.6 m2 (1,535 sq ft) in total.

Sgt. Hartman - Full Metal Jacket - Closed Captions Provided for the Height Impaired

You don't scare me. Work on it. Watch this with the captions on. Very nicely done. A guy in my fraternity at LSU in the 80s made the mistake of showing up for Marine boot camp wearing his pledge jersey and his little Hispanic DI wrote the Greek letters on his forehead with a Sharpie every morning for a week.

The Short-Timers - Gustav Hasford

Full Metal Jacket. The hardcover is ex-library, otherwise it would be worth a considerable amount. As it is I only paid a quarter. The paperback is also worth quite a bit since the book is out of print and demand is high.

Sandwich of the Day: Pot Roast with Comeback Sauce

This is a new one on me. My mother gave me some leftover chili and pot roast, and Comeback sauce, which I had never heard of. Mississippi sauce. Good sandwich. I have enough for another one so I might get a pic tomorrow. First one already gone. Comeback sauce is mayo, chile sauce, ketchup, Creole mustard, worcestershire, onion, garlic, pepper.

No Way Can a Coyote Survive a Gunpowder Sandwich

Well, I suppose that proves that the coyote's the Antichrist.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0539912/

Cheers season four, ep. 15 The Triangle. Part of a larger discussion on the existential aspects of the Roadrunner cartoons.

Woody: It's quick, it's simple, and you don't have to send away for one of those kits or anything.
Carla: What kits?
Woody: You know, like the coyote does in the Road Runner cartoons. By the way, now, I always wondered, if he can afford to buy those kits to catch the Road Runner, why can't he afford to buy something to eat?
Cliff: Woody, I think you're missing the point here. It's not that Wile E. Coyote wants to eat, necessarily, or that he wants to eat a roadrunner. What he wants is to eat that particular roadrunner. It's very existential.
Diane: We're trying to save a man's life here.
Norm: Yeah, Cliff, really. Besides, I have to disagree with you, you know. You never see the coyote eat anything else. Think about it. You never really see him eat anything at all, which could be why he's missing the damn bird all the time, you know. The brain needs sugar. Think about it. You gotta clamp...
Carla: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But did you guys ever see the one where there were two roadrunners?
Sam: Two roadrunners?

Gator (1976)

Directed by Burt Reynolds. His first movie as director. Free with Ads on Youtube. Jerry Reed, Jack Weston, Lauren Hutton, Alice Ghostley. Sequel to White Lightning. Cinematography by William A. Fraker. Poster art by Robert McGinnis. The TV show Archer made a mistake when they referenced this in the swamp episode by saying Gator is actually the better of the two movies. It's not. It is entertaining. Any movie with a kick-ass boat chase and Jerry Reed theme song gets high marks in my book. Stunt coordinator and second unit director Hal Needham. White Lightning is also on Youtube for free.

A.V. Club Staffers Quit After Management Demands They Move from Chicago to L.A. Without Cost-of-Living Raise

The Los Angeles Times reported earlier this week that one of the Chicago employees who was invited to move was actually writing an article for the A.V. Club when she discovered her own job was posted online — in California.

“At first I was like, ‘Is this a mistake?’” said A.V. Club senior writer Katie Rife. “That is something that I have never experienced in my professional career … and I gotta say it was pretty disheartening.”

Simon & Simon - Red Dog Blues

Season two, episode 22. March 24, 1983. Cleavon Little, Darleen Carr, Robert Englund, James Avery, Sam Scarber. This one also notable because Ricky Jay appears teaching the Simons three-card monte and the benefits of good patter. Darleen Carr later married A.J. Simon but here Rick was romancing her.

Sally Struthers Part 1 (and 2) on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast

https://soundcloud.com/gilbertgottfried/sally-struthers-part-1

In the first part of a two-part episode, Emmy-winning actress Sally Struthers joins Gilbert and Frank for a fascinating and laugh-filled conversation about the aloofness of Rudy Vallee, the eccentricities of Sam Peckinpah, the versatility of Bill Dana, the unexplainable existence of "The Phynx" and the recent 50th anniversary of "All in the Family." Also, Jack Nicholson shops at Tiffany's, Steve McQueen romances Ali MacGraw, Rod Steiger gives Sally the heebie-jeebies and Bob Hope visits the “Planet of the Shapes." PLUS: Jack Benny! Ned Glass! "Five Easy Pieces"! "The Tim Conway Comedy Hour"! The many faces of Sammy Davis Jr! And Sally remembers friends and co-stars Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton!

https://www.gilbertpodcast.com/sally-struthers-part-two/

In this conclusion of a memorable two-part episode, veteran screen and stage actress Sally Struthers regales Gilbert and Frank with entertaining backstage tales from “All in the Family,” “The Gilmore Girls” and the all-female production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple,” while sharing personal recollections of Joan Crawford, David Frost, Betty Garrett, Liz Torres and her idol and hero Ruth Gordon. Also, Burgess Meredith philosophizes, Katharine Hepburn paints a birthday card, Sally “gooses” Dennis the Menace and Mel Blanc shows off his vanity license plate. PLUS: Burt Mustin! “Harold and Maude”! “The Great Houdini”! The genius of Rupert Holmes! Colonel Potter goes to Russia! And Sally dates the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and…wait for it…Pat McCormick!
