Wu's TV Corner #20: Sugar Time!

https://thegoldenhornblog.blogspot.com/2021/01/sugar-time.html

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1439394/

1978 ABC. "Punk Rock." Barbi Benton girl band sitcom. Created by James Komack. Other band members are Marianne Black and Didi Carr. The sleazy manager is Terry Kiser, who appeared in three episodes. The young ladies are in a struggling band called Sugar, trying to break through in the music business.

In this episode manager Terry Kiser convinces the girls to go punk, the new hot thing. They are now The Garbage Bags, dressed in garbage bags and throwing garbage at the audience. They are a big hit but only one member wants to continue as a punk band. Maggie (Marianne Black) completely embraces the punk lifestyle and the others get worried. The Garbage Bags get a chance to appear on a hit rock TV show to introduce the whole country to punk rock, but the fact that her family might see her on TV shocks Maggie back to reality.

This is a pretty dire show that only lasted eleven episodes. Saved slightly by the punk storyline and 70s Barbi Benton. "Punk Rock Consultant" in the closing credits was Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go's. This is the only episode on Youtube and I think it is pretty rare to be seen at all.
