The Food and Drug Administration said Monday that it plans to investigate the Tropicana Products Inc. voluntary recall of its Sparkler beverage line. Tropicana announced the nationwide recall on Friday, after learning of 12 incidents in which bottles of Sparkler exploded. Two of those incidents caused minor injuries, Tropicana spokeswoman Terri Holloway said. Sparkler, a blend of fruit juice and sparkling water, is packaged in 10-ounce and 23-ounce glass bottles at the Bradenton, Fla., plant. Over the weekend, stores across the country removed Sparkler from their shelves. Holloway said she did not know how many cases Tropicana would need to dispose of. (1/15/91)
