Wu's TV Corner #31: California Fever

1979 CBS. "Beach Wars." Jimmy McNichol, Marc McClure, Lorenzo Lamas, Michele Tobin. Life on the beach in California. Heather Thomas from The Fall Guy is a guest star in this episode. Roller skaters vs. bike riders. Bad blood between the two groups. Is the beach big enough for the both of them?

Lorenzo Lamas runs Rick's Place, the beach hangout and eatery that also has a bunch of pinball machines, but now everyone is hanging at the Shake Shack because the skater/biker accidents have closed Rick's part of the walk and now someone is going to sue. The Shake Shack owner is Edd "Kookie" Byrnes and he has a vested interest in keeping the feud going because his business is booming. I remember very well how big roller skating was in 1979. Kids in my school would have their birthday parties at the roller rink, Leo's Rollerland, which remained open until 2017.

Yet another short-lived 1979 season series on Youtube. There are three episodes of California Fever up right now and this ep. was the newest upload from a couple of months ago. Not a very good show but it does have some interest with the young stars, beach setting, and late 70s vibe.
