1991 CBS. "Daffy Dicks." Kevin Pollak black and white period sitcom. With bookend commentaries from Rob Reiner, who was one of the creators. Morton & Hayes were a lost comedy duo in the vein of Abbott & Costello. This episode directed by and guest starring Christopher Guest. Michael McKean also wrote an episode and directed another. Joe Flaherty wrote one episode as well. Other guest stars this week are Catherine O'Hara and Raye Birk, and Pollak's partner as Hayes is Bob Amaral. Raye Birk and Hamilton Camp appeared in two episodes, and Christopher Guest in three. There were six episodes produced, plus a slightly different pilot. Guest directed all but one of them.

In this storyline Morton & Hayes are working as private detectives and are hired by Catherine O'Hara to find out if her rich husband, played by Christopher Guest, is having an affair. Rob Reiner's introduction for this episode can be seen below. Pollak sells a fun little piece of slapstick involving a fly in the office while his partner is asleep. When the duo arrive at the fancy mansion the case is complicated by the death of their client, whose body promptly disappears, and the appearance of an evil twin. Raye Birk plays the butler, who may be involved.

This is one oddball sitcom premise. And a minor miracle that it made it to air in black and white. All of the episodes are on Youtube, except the earlier pilot, and I watched them all a couple of years ago. A fun show and you won't see another sitcom quite like this. Totally unique.
