70s Burt Reynolds

7/22/15 in the Kinja archive. The first week of The Golden Horn. This is a truncated version but all the original text is here:

A look at Burt Reynolds in the 70s. Burt becoming Burt and also becoming the biggest movie star in the world. Mainly focusing on the Reynolds movies I have covered on Kinja, but all of the 70s movies will get a brief mention.

Shamus (1973). Burt the private detective and pool shark. Very violent. Also stars Morris the Cat.

White Lightning (1973). Burt the moonshiner up against a crooked system. A favorite of mine among a bunch of favorites.

W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings (1975). Burt the con man and bank robber who hooks up with a country band. Never released on DVD but found on Youtube.

Hustle (1975). Burt the cop with a hooker girlfriend. A very seedy story. Good cast. I have the DVD.

Gator (1976). Burt returns as the moonshiner in his first movie as director. Also stars Jerry Reed.

Fuzz (1972). Burt is a cop in an ensemble cast. I finally was able to find this one and it was pretty good.

Deliverance (1972). Burt gets his big break. And he’s convinced he should have won an Oscar. I have the DVD.

The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing (1973). Never seen it. (2022 note: still never seen it.)

The Longest Yard (1974). Burt is a former football player thrown into prison. Directed by Robert Aldrich. Pure awesome. I have the DVD.

Smokey and the Bandit (1977). A huge hit. Burt the giant movie star takes over the 70s. I saw it in the theater as a little kid.

Hooper (1978). Burt the stunt man. I also saw this one in the theater.

The End (1978). Directed by Reynolds. Burt the suicide. Plays better uncut. I had the TV edit from this-TV and didn’t like it very much.

Due to space concerns I will just Wiki link to the rest of the Burt Reynolds movies from the 70s.

Skullduggery (1970). Never seen it.

Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex But Were Afraid To Ask (1972).

At Long Last Love (1975). Never seen it.

Nickelodeon (1976). Never seen it.

Silent Movie (1976). Not listed on his IMDb credits for some reason.

Semi-Tough (1977). Pretty good football movie.

Starting Over (1979). Some people think this is one of Burt’s best performances. I have the DVD.
