Cornbread with Hot Peppers

Small pickled tabasco peppers that I use in my chili. Buttermilk, bacon grease, and a very hot cast iron skillet. My grandmother's cornbread recipe. Goes good with the spicy bean soup I made again today.

Granny’s Cornbread
For this recipe you’ll need an 8-inch cast iron skillet and some bacon grease. I keep a little jar of it in the fridge just for making cornbread. Oil will do in a pinch but it won’t have as much flavor.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. The trick is to stick the cast iron pan in the oven for a few minutes to let it get hot and then add about a tablespoon of bacon grease and get that hot so when you pour the batter in you get a sizzle. That is what makes a nice crust.
Dry ingredients:
1 cup yellow corn meal
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder (heaping)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Wet ingredients:
2 cups buttermilk (approx.)
1 egg
Mix the dry ingredients together and mix the egg and buttermilk together and then combine. You don’t want to stir it too much, just make sure everything is mixed together well; the batter should be fairly thin, almost like a pancake batter.
Pour into blazing hot cast iron skillet and bake at 450 for 23-25 minutes until cooked through and browned on top.

Street Hawk

1985 ABC. Ernie Anderson narration. Tangerine Dream music. Robert Beltran is in the first episode. Watching the pilot now. 13 episodes.

This is Jesse Mach, an ex-motorcycle cop, injured in the line of duty. Now a police troubleshooter, he’s been recruited for a top secret government mission to ride Street Hawk — an all-terrain attack motorcycle designed to fight urban crime, capable of incredible speeds up to three hundred miles an hour, and immense firepower. Only one man, federal agent Norman Tuttle, knows Jesse Mach’s true identity. The man...the machine...Street Hawk.

It was exactly a year ago that I used $100 in gift cards to buy a cheap laptop with nice HD screen to use just for streaming. Last June I spent a couple of weeks trying to find as many old TV shows as I could and I found a lot. Now, a year later, I am searching again for some shows I couldn't find to see what might be available. Street Hawk was one of them. Found some at Dailymotion.

Hawaiian Heat

1984 ABC. The latest show I found at Internet Archive. Watching the second half of the pilot movie now. They don't have the whole run but they do have several episodes. This is another one of those short-lived shows that has never been available anywhere. I read at one of the Wiki links that star Robert Ginty may have been the source for a couple of these. He sent some tapes to a fan right before he died from cancer at age 60. 10 episodes.

(A note on episode counts: IMDb and Wiki often disagree so these numbers are plus/minus one depending on how they were counted.)

Mann & Machine

1992 NBC. Yancy Butler. I put one of these on at random this morning that had Curtis Armstrong guest starring in it and it has this line, "You don't have to know about chemistry or analogies to be a great cook. You just have to be from Louisiana." Which is true. Turns out the guy playing the partner cop is from Baton Rouge and went to LSU. David Andrews is his name. That pretty much made my day already. Even better that it was directed at Curtis Armstrong, who is playing a food writer in this ep., "Water, Water, Everywhere." In my original post on this show I wondered how many robot cop shows were made because this was compared with Holmes & Yoyo. 9 episodes.

Angie

1979-80 ABC. I just watched a couple of these on Youtube and Robert Hays is on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast this week with Julie Hagerty doing an Airplane! 40th anniversary show. I was watching an early 2000s sitcom recently on Internet Archive and they made a Donna Pescow reference. Doris Roberts plays the mother who runs a newsstand. A young Tammy Lauren is also in it, one of the actors who shows up over and over in my old TV watching.
