Another Korean War movie, this time by Samuel Fuller (directed, written, and produced by). Different tone than Anthony Mann's Men in War, but similar in that it's not a bullshit John Wayne propaganda film. Standout performance is from WWII vet Gene Evans, playing Sgt. Zack. Thought I recongnized him from something: MASH episode "Blood and Guts".
IMDb:
When director Samuel Fuller interviewed Evans for a part in The Steel Helmet (1951), the director had an M-1 carbine lying across his desk. Fuller threw the rifle at him and told him to "Rack it back," which he did. That was his audition, and Evans got the part.
